Might of the Divine: The Strongest Gods of Classical Mythology

POWER OF MYTHS
Power shapes every level of the Greco‑Roman mythological world, from the thrones of Olympus to the battles fought on earth. Myths about gods like Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, and Ares highlight different kinds of strength, including physical force, political authority, and control over fate. Stories and visual artifacts reveal how divine power creates order, provokes conflict, and punishes those who overstep their limits. Examining these powerful gods shows how ancient cultures imagined hierarchy, justice, and the consequences of challenging a higher power.

PROJECT

Our Focus
Power operates at the center of the myths studied in Classical Mythology (CLAS 160D2) with Professor Robert Stephan, especially in stories about the strongest gods and heroic figures. Using examples like Zeus, Heracles, and powerful divine artifacts, this project examines different kinds of strength—physical force, political authority, and control over fate—and how these forms of power shape relationships between gods and mortals in the Greco‑Roman world.
